What The 90/180 Day Rule Means

The 90/180-day rule limits visa-free travellers to a maximum of 90 days in the Schengen Area during any rolling 180-day period. Because the window moves with every day that passes, your remaining allowance on any given date depends on your full travel history, not just your current trip.

How The Rolling 180-Day Window Works

Choose a reference date and add each of your Schengen stays with their entry and exit dates. The calculator works out the 180-day lookback window ending on your reference date, totals how many of those days were spent in the Schengen Area, and shows how many days you have used and how many remain. Stays that only partially overlap the window are counted only for the days that fall within it.

FAQ

What does the 90/180-day rule mean?

The 90/180-day rule allows visa-free travellers to spend up to 90 days in the Schengen Area within any rolling 180-day period. The 180-day window moves with every day that passes, so your remaining allowance depends on your full travel history relative to the date you are checking.

How does the rolling 180-day window work?

For any reference date, the calculator looks back 180 days, including the reference date itself, and totals how many of those days you spent in the Schengen Area. This window shifts as the reference date changes, which is why a trip that is compliant on one date can become non-compliant on a later date.

Why does this calculator ask for a reference date?

The reference date lets you check your compliance status on any specific day, not just today. This is useful for planning future trips or reviewing past travel history against the 90/180 rule.

What happens if a stay only partially falls inside the lookback window?

Only the portion of a stay that falls within the 180-day lookback window counts towards your days used. Days from a stay that fall before the window start or after the reference date are excluded.
